2012 Mabry Camp Out with Troop 9

February 4th to 5th promises to be a great weekend for our annual Pack 9 - Troop 9 camp out at Camp Mabry.  With a high around 63 degrees and low around 40 on Saturday will be a chilly night but a tent, good sleeping bag and sleeping pad or mattress will get you through it in good shape.  Remember to dress in layers and a hat and gloves always help you retain a little more heat.  See the Camping 101 page for more info on the equipment and supplies you might want to bring.  One of the great things about Camp Mabry is that you can run home or to the store if you forget something.

Another great thing with this camp out is that the Boy Scouts organize and instruct our Cubs through a series of activity stations through which we will rotate.  Here is the schedule that Troop 9 has developed:

Saturday Feb 04 Mabry Campout
1PM Opening flag ceremony
1:30PM Activity station 1
2:00PM Activity station 2
2:30PM Activity station 3
3:00PM Activity station 4
3:30PM Activity station 5 or game
4PM Dinner prep by Troop 9
5PM Flag lowering. Dinner served by Troop 9. Tigers first.
6:45PM Campfire (depending upon burn ban)
9:30PM Quiet in campsite

Sunday Feb 05
7AM Breakfast served by Pack 9. Troop 9 breakout with Webelos 2/Parents.
8AM Webelos 2 meet with Boy Scouts and Scoutmaster for Arrow of Light
9AM Break camp
10AM Meet at pavilion. Police campsite.

As you can see, Troop 9 will prepare the evening meal on Saturday and Pack 9 will prepare breakfast.  We are planning to prepare and serve breakfast tacos, maybe pancakes, fruit juice, hot chocolate and coffee.  I'm currently working on headcounts and den assignments for the breakfast prep.  Your den leader will get with you about specific responsibilities.

As of 1/31/2012, the Fire Marshall has lifted the burn ban for Travis County so we should be good for the campfire.  Be sure you bring your Smores supplies, jokes and stories (appropriate of course).

If you haven't been to Camp Mabry before, the map below shows the entrance off 35th street that gets you onto the post.  You will have to check in at the guard house - make sure you bring photo IDs.  Our camp site is near the picnic pavilion by the small lake.

Look forward to seeing a bunch of happy scouts this weekend.
