Report to State Parade - Feb 4, 2012

Join us for the 102nd anniversary celebration of the Scouting movement at the 63rd annual Boy Scout Parade and Report to the State of Texas - Feb 4th, 2012.  The theme is "Prepared. For Life."

Downtown Austin will become a sea of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts Venture Scouts, Sea Scouts, and Explorer Scouts from all over Texas marching up Congress Avenue to the Capitol. Scout Delegates from each council in Texas are seated in the House of Representatives and report to a member of the state government about Scouting accomplishments in their council from the past year.

All Cub Scouts and Akelas are welcome to join Pack 9 in this year's BSA Report to State Parade.  It is a lot of fun for adults and scouts, to participate in this big parade up Congress Avenue to Capitol.

For this year's parade, Pack 9 will be riding bicycles (or some other human powered wheeled vehicle.)  You don't have to ride but it is encouraged.  There will be a lot of people in the parade so parents will need to make sure your Scout stays with our group.

If you are riding something with wheels, make sure you wear your helmet.

Each Scout has been asked to bring 5 cans of food in support of the “Souper Bowl of Caring”. Please drop off your Scouts food donations at 220 South Congress. This is near a storefront for a furniture store, near Barton Springs Road.

Here are the details for Pack 9:
  • Everyone should show up at the Congress Street Bridge and look for Pack 9 between 8:00am and 8:30am.  We will be assigned a position for staging on the bridge when we arrive.  I'll try to have someone near the southernmost, east side street light pole that is actually on the bridge to guide people to our spot when they arrive.  If no one is there, just look around on the bridge.  Please, absolutely be there no later than 8:30am.

  • Uniform is Class 'A' for Scouts since this is an officially sanctioned BSA event.
  • Please try to eat a good breakfast before coming.
  • Coffee, hot chocolate, and donuts will be on-hand until they run out.
  • I have it on good authority that the best place to park is in the TXDOT lot located near the northeast corner of Congress and Riverside.  If that doesn't work, other parking options are shown below.
