Thanks to everyone that came out for Report to State.  It was truly impressive to see all those Scouts lined up on Congress Ave.  Everyone had a great time on the Duck although for some reason I can't get this certain tune out of my head.

The pack meeting is coming up on Thursday the 18th.  Attendance at the meetings has been a little sparse lately and I hope everyone makes the effort to come out for this one.  We have lined up a presentation by a volunteer from Travis County Search and Rescue.  This is a first responder organization based in Austin dedicated to providing search & rescue services to law enforcement agencies and others in time of need.  Find out more at http://tcsar.serveronline.net/

I would like to encourage all of our Scouts to wear their Class A uniform to school on pack meeting days.  This is an easy way for us to raise awareness of Cub Scouting at Bryker Woods and besides, that makes it easy to pick out what to wear on Thursday.  Just remind them to keep their uniforms neat and presentable throughout the day.  As a side note, any Scout who signs up a friend to join the Pack is eligible to wear the Recruiter strip on their uniform.  Spread the word.

On the 21st of February, we will be having a scout hut work day alongside the Boy Scouts of Troop 9.  There is plenty of work to do but don't let that scare you - it should be a lot of fun as well.

Our next camp out is just around the bend on February 27-28 at the Hill Country State Natural Area near Bandera.  Everyone that has been here before says that this is a wonderful place.  Stephen Lemmon has volunteered to cook his supper specialty (hot dogs) for the whole camp on Saturday evening.  For more information, click on the link at the left under Camping.

Our March pack meeting that was scheduled for March 25 was preempted by the Bryker Woods AxBW arts festival which was recently rescheduled for the same day.  After much consternation, the pack leadership committee determined that there just wasn't a good day in March for our pack meeting.  So, no pack meeting in March.  However, if any dens need a little extra time to work on achievements before the Blue & Gold banquet, March might be a good month to plan an extra den meeting.  Also, I believe there is a Cub Adventure Day at Camp Wooten near Bastrop scheduled for March 27.  This is a great way to earn some of those hard to get belt loops & such like BB guns and Archery.  I'll try to get more info on this.

To make up for missing the March meeting, which would normally have been our main recruiting meeting, we are planning a special recruiting event that will be held immediately after school on Friday the 9th of April.  The idea is to catch the kids before they escape the school grounds and give them a good idea of what Cub Scouting is all about.  As we develop more details about this event, we will be asking for volunteers - both the Scout and Adult variety - so get ready.  As always, ideas are welcome.

That brings us about up to the Blue & Gold Banquet ... but I think I'll save that for another post.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the pack meeting and remember that Thursday is Uniform Day at Bryker Woods.

Cheers,

Grady Gossard
